"If you believe what you like in the gospel, and reject what
you don't

It is not the intent of this study to minimize the importance of repentance (Acts 17:30 and I John 1:9) and confession (Romans 9:10 and I John 4:15), for the scriptures also make these actions of critical importance to salvation as well. This page is devoted to a study of the scriptures about the factors of salvation that are of greatest concern within Christianity today. |

Critical Factors of Salvation
grace, faith, baptism and charity
An overview scripture for each Factor
Can we be unified on this subject after we pull together the supporting scriptures? This section brings together a key scripture for each factor of salvation. Following this section are additional related verses for each factor for further study. The mathematics are complex and interwoven, yet they should be simple, for God expects us to understand. Jesus asks us to accept His teachings. For Jesus says in John 8:31 “If you hold to my teachings, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” ‘What does the Word of God have to say about salvation?’ is the question. Let us read the word of God.

2 Timothy 1:8-9
8 So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me
his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the
power
of God, 9 who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not
because
of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.
This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
10
but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior,
Christ
Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to

31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with
him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32 All the nations
will
be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from
another
as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the
sheep
on his right and the goats on his left. 34 "Then the King will say
to
those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your
inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the
world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and
you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after
me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' 37 "Then the
righteous
will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or
thirsty
and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and
invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see
you
sick or in prison and go to visit you?' 40 "The King will
reply,
'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these
brothers
of mine, you did for me.' 41 "Then he will say to those on his
left,
'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for
the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing
to
eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a
stranger
and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe
me,
I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' 44 "They
also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a
stranger
or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help
you?'
45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for
one
of the least of these, you did not do for me.' 46 "Then they will
go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

SALVATION
The Lord God is With You! Zeph 3:17
This section provides more verses for each Factor
Grace came through Christ.
John 1:15-17
15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he
of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was
before me.' " 16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received
one
blessing after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses;
grace
and truth came through Jesus Christ.
We receive grace.
Romans 1:4-6
4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to
be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our
Lord.
5 Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and
apostleship
to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes
from faith. 6 And you also are among those who are called to
belong
to Jesus Christ.
We are justified freely by His grace.
Romans 3:23-25
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are
justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by
Christ
Jesus. 25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith
in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his
forbearance
he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished.
By grace we are guaranteed to be Abraham’s offspring.
Romans 4:15-17
15 because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no
transgression. 16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may
be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring, not only
to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of
Abraham.
He is the father of us all. 17 As it is written: "I have made you a
father
of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in
whom he believed--the God who gives life to the dead and calls things
that
are not as though they were.
We stand in his grace.
Romans 5:1-2
1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have
gained
access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice
in
the hope of the glory of God.
God’s grace and the Gift of the grace of Christ.
Romans 5:14-16
14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of
Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did
Adam,
who was a pattern of the one to come. 15 But the gift is not like the
trespass.
For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did
God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus
Christ,
overflow to the many! 16 Again, the gift of God is not like the
result
of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought
condemnation,
but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
We are under grace.
Romans 6:13-15
13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of
wickedness,
but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from
death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments
of
righteousness. 14 For sin shall not be your master, because you
are
not under law, but under grace. 15 What then? Shall we sin
because
we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
We are chosen by grace.
Romans 11:5-7
5 So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.
6 And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace
would
no longer be grace. 7 What then? What Israel sought so earnestly
it did not obtain, but the elect did. The others were hardened.
Grace is given to us in Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 1:2-4
2 To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus
and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on
the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours: 3 Grace and
peace
to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I
always
thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.
The grace of God is with us.
1 Corinthians 15:9-11
9 For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be
called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But
by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without
effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace
of God that was with me. 11 Whether, then, it was I or they, this
is what we preach, and this is what you believed.
Paul did not write anything we could not understand, especially
about
God’s grace.
2 Corinthians 1:11-13
11 as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our
behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of
many.
12 Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have
conducted
ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, in
the
holiness and sincerity that are from God. We have done so not according
to worldly wisdom but according to God's grace. 13
For
we do not write you anything you cannot read or understand.
We were called by the grace of Christ.
Galatians 1:5-7
5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 6 I am
astonished
that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace
of
Christ and are turning to a different gospel 7 which is really no
gospel
at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are
trying
to pervert the gospel of Christ.
Without the grace of God, Christ would have died for nothing, but he
gave himself for us.
Galatians 2:20-21
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ
lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of
God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside
the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law,
Christ died for nothing!”
When we are trying to be justified by the law, we fall away from
grace.
Galatians 5:3-5
3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that
he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4 You who are trying to be
justified
by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from
grace.
5 But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness
for
which we hope.
God has freely given his grace to us through Christ.
Ephesians 1:5-7
5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ,
in accordance with his pleasure and will, 6 to the praise of his
glorious
grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we
have
redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance
with
the riches of God's grace. 8 that he lavished on us with all
wisdom
and understanding.
By grace we have been saved, through faith.
Ephesians 2:4-10
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in
transgressions--it
is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up
with
Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ
Jesus,
7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable
riches
of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ
Jesus.
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not
from
yourselves, it is the gift of God, 9 not by works, so that
no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus
to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Each of us have been given grace.
Ephesians 4:6-8
6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in
all. 7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ
apportioned it. 8 This is why it says: "When he ascended on high,
he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men."
God’s grace in all its truth.
Colossians 1:5-6
5 the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for
you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of
truth,
the gospel 6 that has come to you. All over the world this gospel
is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since
the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth.
Grace has a relationship to our calling and every act we do.
2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may
count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill
every
good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. 12 We pray
this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and
you
in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace poured out to save sinners.
1 Timothy 1:13-15
13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent
man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.
14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with
the
faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 Here is a trustworthy
saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world
to save sinners--of whom I am the worst.
Saved us and called us of his own purpose and grace.
2 Timothy 1:8-10
8 So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me
his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the
power
of God, 9 who has saved us and called us to a holy life,
not
because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and
grace.
This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
10
but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior,
Christ
Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to
light through the gospel.
The grace of God brings Salvation.
Titus 2:10-12
10 and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully
trusted,
so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior
attractive.
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all
men.
12 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and
to
live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age
We are justified by his grace.
Titus 3:6-8
6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our
Savior,
7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs
having
the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I
want
you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may
be
careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are
excellent
and profitable for everyone.
Our belief is linked to salvation
Mark 16:16
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does
not believe will be condemned.
Will Christ upon his return find faith upon the earth.
Luke 18:7-8
7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry
out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you,
he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son
of
Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"
Heaven is the promise.
John 3:15-17
15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. 16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did
not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the
world
through him.
Our faith leads us to do as Christ would do.
John 14:11-13
11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is
in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.
12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have
been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am
going
to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that
the
Son may bring glory to the Father.
We have the Word of God to point us to having life eternal.
John 20:31
31 “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the
Christ,
the Son of God and that believing you may have life in his name.
We are sanctified by faith in Christ.
Acts 26:17-18
17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I
am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from
darkness
to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive
forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith
in me.'
Our obedience comes from faith.
Romans 1:4-6
4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to
be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our
Lord.
5 Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and
apostleship
to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes
from faith. 6 And you also are among those who are called to belong to
Jesus Christ.
The righteous will live by faith.
Romans 1:16-17
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for
the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the
Gentile. 17 For in the gospel, a righteousness from God is revealed, a
righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is
written:
"The righteous will live by faith."
Righteousness is from God and comes through faith in Jesus.
Romans 3:21-23
21 But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made
known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness
from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There
is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God,
God justifies us who have faith in Jesus.
Romans 3:25-27
25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in
his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his
forbearance
he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished, 26 he did it to
demonstrate
his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who
justifies
those who have faith in Jesus. 27 Where, then, is boasting? It is
excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on
that
of faith.
Justification through faith.
Romans 3:29-31
29 Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too?
Yes, of Gentiles too, 30 since there is only one God, who will justify
the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.
31 Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all!
Rather,
we uphold the law.
Are we of the faith of Abraham?
Romans 4:15-17
15 because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no
transgression. 16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may
be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring, not only
to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of
Abraham.
He is the father of us all. 17 As it is written: "I have made you a
father
of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom
he
believed--the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are
not as though they were.
We are justified by faith.
Romans 5:1-2
1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have
gained
access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice
in
the hope of the glory of God.
We have obtained a righteousness that is by faith.
Romans 9:30-33
30 What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue
righteousness,
have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but Israel, who
pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. 32 Why not?
Because
they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled
over the "stumbling stone." 33 As it is written: "See, I lay in
Zion
a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and
the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”
Our faith rests on God’s power.
1 Corinthians 2:4-6
4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words,
but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, 5 so that your faith
might
not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power. 6 We do, however, speak a
message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or
of
the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
We live by faith not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:6-8
6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are
at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 We live by
faith,
not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be
away
from the body and at home with the Lord.
Christ lives by God’s power and we are to examine ourselves.
2 Corinthians 13:4-6
4 For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God's
power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God's power we will live
with
him to serve you. 5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the
faith;
test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you,
unless,
of course, you fail the test? 6 And I trust that you will discover that
we have not failed the test.
Living by faith in the Son of God.
Galatians 2:19-21
19 For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God.
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ
lives
in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace
of
God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died
for nothing!"
The righteous will live by faith.
Galatians 3:6-14
6 Consider Abraham: "He believed God, and it was credited to him as
righteousness." 7 Understand, then, that those who believe are children
of Abraham. 8 The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles
by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: "All nations
will be blessed through you." 9 So those who have faith are blessed
along
with Abraham, the man of faith. 10 All who rely on observing the
law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does
not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." 11
Clearly
no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will
live by faith." 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, "The
man who does these things will live by them." 13 Christ redeemed us
from
the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written:
"Cursed
is everyone who is hung on a tree." 14 He redeemed us in order that the
blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ
Jesus,
so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
We are justified by faith.
Galatians 3:23-25
23 Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked
up until faith should be revealed. 24 So the law was put in charge to
lead
us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that faith has
come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.
Faith is expressed through love.
Galatians 5:5-6
5 But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness
for which we hope. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor
uncircumcision
has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself
through
love.
We approach God through faith.
Ephesians 3:11-13
11 according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ
Jesus our Lord. 12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God
with freedom and confidence. 13 I ask you, therefore, not to be
discouraged
because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.
The shield of faith in the battle with Satan.
Ephesians 6:15-17
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the
gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield
of
faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil
one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which
is the word of God.
Righteousness is through faith in Christ.
Philippians 3:8-10
8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing
greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost
all
things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be
found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the
law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness that
comes from God and is by faith. 10 I want to know Christ and the power
of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings,
becoming
like him in his death,
We are charged to continue in faith.
Colossians 1:22-23
22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through
death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from
accusation,
23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from
the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and
that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which
I,
Paul, have become a servant.
Our faith is in the Power of God.
Colossians 2:11-13
11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful
nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the
circumcision
done by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised
with
him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the
dead.
13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your
sinful
nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,
Salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:14-16
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become
convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and
how
from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make
you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture
is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training
in righteousness,
Faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life.
Titus 1:1-3
1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith
of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness,
2 a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God,
who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, 3 and at his
appointed
season he brought his word to light through the preaching entrusted to
me by the command of God our Savior,
We are to share our faith.
Philemon 1:5-7
5 because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for
all the saints. 6 I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith,
so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have
in Christ. 7 Your love has given me great joy and encouragement,
because
you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.
We are to combine what we learn with faith, so we may enter his
rest.
Hebrews 4:1-3
1 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let
us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2
For
we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the
message
they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not
combine
it with faith. 3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God
has said, "So I declared on oath in my anger, 'They shall never
enter
my rest.' "
Through faith we will inherit what is promised, salvation.
Hebrews 6:11-12
11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end,
in order to make your hope sure. 12 We do not want you to become lazy,
but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has
been
promised.
What we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1-2
1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we
do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.
Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.
James 2:14-26
14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but
has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16
If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well
fed,"
but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the
same
way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18
But
someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your
faith
without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. 19 You
believe
that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that–and shudder.
20 You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is
useless
? 21 Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did
when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith
and
his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by
what
he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed
God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called
God's
friend. 24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not
by
faith alone. 25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the
prostitute
considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the
spies
and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the
spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
We are shielded through faith by God’s power until the coming of
salvation.
1 Peter 1:3-9
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his
great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the
resurrection
of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never
perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are
shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready
to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, though
now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of
trials. 7 These have come so that your faith, of greater worth than
gold,
which perishes even though refined by fire, may be proved genuine and
may
result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8
Though
you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him
now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and
glorious
joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of
your
souls.
The goal of our faith is the salvation of our souls.
1 Peter 1:8-10
8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do
not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an
inexpressible
and glorious joy 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the
salvation
of your souls. 10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who
spoke
of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the
greatest
care.
The very words of Jesus.
Mark 16:16
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does
not believe will be condemned.
We can’t be saved without the forgiveness of our sins. How can
one be saved with the burden of sin that is washed away only with
baptism?
Acts 2:38
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will
receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit.
This act was what added these brethren to the church and kingdom of
God.
Acts 2:41
21 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three
thousand
were added to their number that day.
The immediate response was to be baptized!
Acts 8:12
12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the
kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both
men
and women.
Based on the word revealed by Philip, the eunuch sensed an urgency
to
be baptized.
Acts 8:36
36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the
eunuch said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?"
37 Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." The
eunuch
answered, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
Unloading the burden of our sins.
Acts 22:16
16 What are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized
and wash away your sins, calling on his name."
It is a serious matter, because we are buried with him through
immersion
and are united with him in his death and resurrection. Nothing
else
can do this.
Romans 6:3-5
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ
Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore
with
him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead
by
the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall
certainly
be united with him in a resurrection like his.
Key component in our relationship with God, along with the body,
Spirit,
Lord, faith, God and Father
Ephesians 4:4-5
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you are called in one
hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 5 One God
and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Peter says that Christ saves us by his resurrection and baptism now
saves us.
I Peter 3:21
21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you, not the putting
away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience
toward
God, it saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We are buried and raised as Christ was buried and raised.
Colossians 2:12
12 and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also
raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him
from
the dead.
In Jesus own words, you have to be baptized to enter the kingdom of
God
John 3:1-5
1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler
of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to
him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one
can
do these signs that you do, unless God is with him. 3 " Jesus
answered
him, "I tell you the truth, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the
kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be
born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb
and be born?" 5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, unless one
is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Once we are baptized, we are clothed with Christ.
Galatians 3:26-27
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27 for
as many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves
with
Christ.
He saved us through the washing of regeneration/baptism.
Titus 3:5
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to
his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewal of
the
Holy Spirit
Our command from Christ is baptize in the Father, Son and Holy Ghost
and teach them to observe all things.
Matthew 28:19-20
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching
them to observe all that I have commanded you; 20 and lo, I am
with
you always, to the close of the age.
We unburden ourselves of our sins only by baptism. How
can
we saved before Baptism if we are burdened with sin?
Acts 22:16
16 And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized, and wash away your
sins, calling on his name.
Those Jesus designated as his sheep took their inheritance.
Matthew 25:31-42
31"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with
him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32 All the nations
will
be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from
another
as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the
sheep
on his right and the goats on his left. 34 "Then the King will say to
those
on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your
inheritance,
the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and
you
gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36
I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after
me,
I was in prison and you came to visit me.' 37 "Then the righteous
will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or
thirsty
and give you something to drink?
Love and do good to our enemies.
Luke 6:34-36
34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit
is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be
repaid
in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them
without
expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you
will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and
wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
We work for the honor of God who sent Jesus Christ.
John 7:17-18
17 If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my
teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. 18 He who speaks
on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the
honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false
about him.
Love one another.
John 13:133-35
33 "My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will
look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am
going, you cannot come. 34 "A new command I give you: Love one
another.
As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men
will
know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
Obey Christ's teachings.
John 14:22-24
22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend
to show yourself to us and not to the world?" 23 Jesus replied,
"If
anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and
we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 He who does
not
love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own;
they belong to the Father who sent me.
God searches our hearts.
Romans 8:27-29
27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because
the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. 28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love
him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God
foreknew
he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he
might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Different kind of gifts, service and working, but the same God who
works
in us.
I Corinthians 12:1-7
1 Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be
ignorant.
2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were
influenced
and led astray to mute idols. 3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is
speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can
say,
"Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 4 There are different
kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of
service,
but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same
God works all of them in all men. 7 Now to each one the
manifestation
of the Spirit is given for the common good.
Without love, we are nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift
of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I
have
a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If
I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,
but
have not love, I gain nothing.
Do everything in love.
1 Corinthians 16:13-14
13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be
strong. 14 Do everything in love.
We are to love the saints with a sincere love.
2 Corinthians 8:6-8
6 So we urged Titus, since he had earlier made a beginning, to bring
also to completion this act of grace on your part. 7 But just as
you excel in everything, in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete
earnestness and in your love for us, see that you also excel in this
grace
of giving. 8 I am not commanding you, but I want to test the
sincerity
of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others.
We give each Sunday as we have decided in our heart and we are to
abound
in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:7-9
7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not
reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all
things
at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good
work.
9 As it is written: "He has scattered abroad his gifts to the
poor;
his righteousness endures forever.”
We are created in Christ Jesus to do good works.
Ephesians 2:10
10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good
works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Works of services builds up the body of Christ.
Ephesians 4:11-13
11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some
to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare
God's
people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the
Son
of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the
fullness
of Christ.
God works in us according to his good purpose.
Philippians 2:12-14
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only
in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out
your
salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to
will and to act according to his good purpose. 14 Do everything without
complaining or arguing
Our labor is prompted by love.
1 Thessalonians 1:2-4
2 We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.
3 We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced
by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by
hope
in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we know, brothers loved by God,
that
he has chosen you,
Our acts are prompted by your faith.
2 Thessalonians 1:10-12
10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be
marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you,
because
you believed our testimony to you. 11 With this in mind, we constantly
pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and
that
by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act
prompted
by your faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may
be
glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and
the Lord Jesus Christ.
The goal of a command is love.
1 Timothy 1:4-6
4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These
promote controversies rather than God's work, which is by faith.
5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a
good conscience and a sincere faith. 6 Some have wandered away
from
these and turned to meaningless talk.
Those who are deacons are to have served well.
1 Timothy 3:12-13
12 deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his
children
and his household well. 13 Those who have served well gain an excellent
standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.
We are especially to provide for our own family.
1 Timothy 5:7-8
7 Give the people these instructions, too, so that no one may be open
to blame. 8 If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and
especially
for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an
unbeliever.
We are to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance
and
gentleness.
1 Timothy 6:11-12
11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good
fight
of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called
when
you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Be ready to do whatever is good.
Titus 3:1-2
1 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be
obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to
be
peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.
We show our faith by what we do.
James 2:14-26
14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but
has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15 Suppose a brother or sister
is
without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to him, "Go, I
wish
you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical
needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if
it
is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18 But someone will say,
“You
have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will
show you my faith by what I do. 19 You believe that there is one
God. Good! Even the demons believe that–and shudder. 20 You
foolish
man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless ?
21
Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when
he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith
and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete
by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says,
"Abraham
believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was
called God's friend. 24 You see that a person is justified by
what
he does and not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, was not even
Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she
gave
lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As
the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
He knows our deeds..
Revelation 2:18-19
18 To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the
words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose
feet
are like burnished bronze. 20 I know your deeds, your love and
faith,
your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you
did at first.
Living in unity, the Lord bestows his blessing
Psalm 133:1-3
1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in
unity!
2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the
beard,
running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes.
3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there
the
LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
Jesus is at the right hand of God.
Mark 14:62
62 “I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the son of man sitting at
the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on clouds of heaven.”
A promise of eternal life.
Luke 18:26-27; 29-30
26 Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?’ 27 Jesus
replied, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.” 29
“I
tell you the truth,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or
wife
or brothers or children of the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to
receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal
life.
Jesus has prepared a place for us.
John 14:1-4
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also
in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so,
I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for
you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take
you
with me that you may be where I am. 4 You know the way to place I
am going.”
We are heirs of God.
Romans 8:10; 17
10 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus form the dead is living
in you, he will also give life to your mortal bodies through his
Spirit,
who lives in you. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs,
heirs
of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings
in
order that we may also share in his glory.
We are reconciled.
Colossians 1:22
22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through
death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from
accusation.
